DEI Statement

Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) is an important aspect of the workplace that every employee and employer should practice in the workplace. To me, DEI is holding women of color to the same standard, and giving them the same opportunities, as everyone else. It means giving women of color the freedom to come as they are, and offer their abilities in a space that values them.

There is a long history in this country of women of color being overlooked or harmed in the workplace, and DEI is meant to help further people's understanding of how this could affect them, today.

It is important for DEI to be discussed in the workplace because people still hold prejudice towards minority groups. Some people partake in microaggressions or have not been educated on how they could display racist or sexist tendencies and need an open conversation to do so. DEI educates people on Intent vs. Impact and how we could be unknowingly partaking in a system that disproportionately targets minority groups for the sake of a dominant group.

DEI is an important factor in gaining perspectives from people and cultures that have been overlooked in the past, which in turn also allows us to better empathize with each other.
